Provo, Utah....

...is nestled between two mountain ranges, the Wasatch Range, to the east, and the Oquirrh to the west.  The largest missionary training center for the Church of Latter Day Saints is located in Provo, as is BYU, which has more than 30,000 students, mostly undergraduates.

Deseret was the state name bestowed upon the area by the Mormons.  When settlers proposed that name to the United States, they were refused and the Utah territory was born (1850).  Filmore was originally the capital, but Salt Lake CIty replaced it in 1858.
